Demyx is no longer the same person who set foot on the Voidtrecker Express.

When he arrived he was self-centered, skittish, and all around focused on the traits he leaned on most in the Organization.

He came to the train at a time when his life was in flux. He was working as a double agent, he was clever, scheming and a survivalist to the extreme. He is still clever and cautious, but instead of hiding behind his scheming and drive to survive he's opened his heart to others, and his focus has shifted outward. He has found a certain level of comfort on the Purple Team that he doesn't have on the Orange Team. He's shifted from protecting people on instinct to actively trying to help people where they go. He's genuinely taking steps to present himself as at least, an anti-hero.

His progress on the train has been gradual, but significant. He was lost when he arrived. He didn't want to involve himself with people, he wasn't sure if he even had friends outside. He didn't have a home, or anywhere to belong.

He questioned the train for his inclusion on the trip. He held to the mantra; 'I am not a hero.' Xion tried to tell him, albeit poorly, that he had some sort of value, and he was a complete person and he dismissed it. He didn't want to hear about it.

Two weeks later Demyx offers a small glimpse of empathy, showing concern for Thanatos.

His first mission, he went with the purple team. He did it by accident - he wasn't setting out with them, he would've gone on the orange quest, but he got turned around. He found himself fighting helpmates, and meeting friendly enough people. He gave Della a boost, and made a friend out of her, and actually engaged in combat in his first team up with Reno, managing to befriend him too.

Through the growth of heart experience he's engaging in, he engages in risky behaviour because he's still lost, and Vexen is very concerned about him. Vexen convinces him two weeks later to order his coat.

Della speaks to him about how the Organization was not good for him, and presses him on the Nobody issue.

The next mission, he joined the Purple Team again, this time intentionally. He worked with several people, especially Reno and Roland.

It was this mission (The Will to Fight), where Demyx started showing some heroics. He wuold suggest they were instinctive. He took a shot for Reno, and he stopped Della from coming into the frey because she was injured.

Demyx sees himself as a monster and isn't ready to face the fact he did something objectively good.

Casper wants him to know he's really a good person and Demyx isn't quite there yet. He's still not quite there. At the next platform when Lapis is out of control, he subdues her to stop her from destroying the train.

In this two week period, he spends time with Reno, Lea tells him that he's more important than he thinks, and Della reiterates that he is a good person.

Prior to the next mission (What Their Eyes See), Demyx actually helps new arrival Hajime. He goes on the Orange mission, for a change, because of the infiltration angle. He spends more than a day in an illusion, leaving him strung out and exhausted. He encounters Xehanort in the illusions and has to face every bad thing he thinks of himself, and Reno helps him out. The key to breaking the illusion was Demyx finding his courage and his centre. He needed to face his fears.

This encounter and the whole experience led to a lot of self-reflection on Demyx's part.

At the break, they go to do learn how to deal with illusions. Demyx doesn't just work diligently, he tries to encourage Lapis to work with him. His hard work pays off because he leaves this place with an amulet.

Around this time, he also took the step of learning a new instrument, a violin, no longer clinging to his sitar for dear life, finally getting a little comfortable with everything. His sitar is an extension of him, a connection to his heart, and he has been really using it to be comfortable with the whole situation.

He was cast in this illuison as a member of the D-Force and an enemy to Voidtreckers.

When he broke out, he continued to be a double agent, familiar with the role and actively sought out Lan Wangji to help protect him from their adversaries. He tried to wake Roland. He also tried to wake Caleb.

In the final battle Demyx did not cower or languish in the background, in fact, he pushed himself to the forefront, talking about how destruction cannot fix anything, and tormenting others never helps. He would know. It was a reflection of his personal experience being turned on his head.

Demyx has shifted from being someone who operates in the shadows and cleverness, and has been pushing himself to the forefront as bold as any other hero on the Purple Team. He considers himself a team player, and he no longer sees himself as a solitary person who needs to just survive. He has taken steps to help and protect others, and has been increasingly active on missions. He has demonstrated deep feelings for other people around him, and he has been shifting his entire perspective as time goes on.

Although he doesn't remember he is connected to heroes of the past, although that connection is murky thanks to Kingdom Hearts lore, he's likely a reincarnation of one of the original foretellers, based on how KHUX ended. He's always had the potential, he just didn't know it. A lot of his behaviours and fears were shaped by his experience and he's actively changing bit by bit as new experiences replace the old.
