Background:
Demyx is a Nobody in Organization XIII. He had a previous life, but little is known about it. His true name has not yet been revealed. He, along with Larxene, Marluxia and Luxord make up a quartet of hearts brought forward from the past to fulfill a purpose, also presently unknown. Knowing who Larxene and Marluxia were in the past tells us that Demyx likely survived the keyblade war the first time, like the Dandelions. It’s highly probable he was one. However, Demyx does not seem to know this. None of the four seemed to know what their purpose was when Xemnas remarked upon it.
In the first iteration of Organization XIII, he was the ninth member, or number IX. He was the first one brought forth from the past, gathered by Xemnas. He spent each day going on missions and was trained in combat and skills provided by being a Nobody. Demyx was dubbed a recon specialist. His distaste for fighting made him unsuitable, and there were better Nobodies for the job. Many of missions likely involved scouting and gathering intelligence. He had a few missions with Roxas, and used them as an opportunity to slack off. He didn’t like the work, or much work at all.
When Roxas left the Organization, and Axel chased after him, with the decimated numbers from the loss at Castle Oblivion, Demyx’s workload increased significantly. He could be seen doing more unusual missions, such as stealing relics from Olympus, or trying to broker deals with Hades. He was also assigned the task to hunt down Sora and bring back Roxas, Sora’s Nobody. Demyx knew from the outset this mission was not going to be successful, and he was proven right when Sora cut him down in Hollow Bastion.
At this time, it is presumed, like everyone else his heart went back where it belonged and he was recompleted, meaning he was back in his past life, situated in the past where the events of Unchained take place.
In Kingdom Hearts III, Demyx reappears with the other three from the past. He remembers the events of the previous games, but doesn’t give any indication that he remembers his past life, aside from telling Vexen he is not in it. Demyx’s demeanor has changed, he’s somewhat sarcastic and a little bitter especially since he appears to have been brought there for a reason he doesn’t understand and to serve no other purpose. He’s been benched, making him a reserve member in the true Organization XIII. He appears in no worlds and has no missions from the top, but Vexen lures him into a conversation for a proposition. He offers Demyx the chance to do something good, and because it involves no fighting and actually doing something because he’s restless, he agrees. He delivers an empty replica to Ienzo, an ex-Nobody who’s working for the side of light and that is the last we see of him. His current whereabouts are unknown.

Personality:
Demyx comes across as laid-back and relaxed, even downright lazy. He can be seen trying to shirk his duties at times in Days. He’s usually smiling and cheerful, he’s very friendly when engaged. He does not have close ties to any of the other members, he’s mostly seen alone. He offers Ienzo a happy greeting when they are reunited and suggest they need to chat, but their connection is not specified. Demyx does not trust his Organization peers. When Vexen approaches him he’s apprehensive. He thinks the whole idea is crazy and that he’s unsuitable. They aren’t friends and he can’t understand why he should trust Vexen won’t get him caught. He’s cautious and filled with a strong sense of self-preservation. He lets insults roll off his back, and is more willing to take it rather than fight back, as demonstrated when Larxene went off on him. Her string of insults yields little else than comments like “You’re way out of line.”.
Demyx is not the most brilliant, but he plays it up to take the most advantage of others around him. He doesn’t particularly care when he’s insulted on the matter. When he tells Larxene and Marluxia they need to play things smart like him and she tells him he’s not smart, he claims he doesn’t have to be. His demeanor here suggests he’s hiding something and he’s looking for the best way to manipulate the situation. It’s better for him if people underestimate him. This is how he capitalizes on what they think to get what he wants, which is ideally to fly under the radar. Demyx does such a good job of flying under the radar that Vexen ends up recruiting him.
As he puts it, he’s super imposing when he wants to be, which is admittedly almost never. Demyx has a cruel side, like most of the Nobodies. This was most demonstrated when he faced off with Sora, the humour and lightness in his expressions melting away to cold and anger. He didn’t want to fight Sora, but he was faced with no choice and he did not hold back. He does not like fighting, nor does he yearn to do so, but that should not be mistaken for an inability to fight. Even in battle, he manipulates the situation, presenting himself as non-threatening so he can take his opponent by surprise.
Throughout the first iteration of Organization XIII, Demyx was loyal to Xemnas. He could not see an alternative but to follow his orders, and he acted accordingly, even when the orders were essentially a suicide mission. He complained, he dragged his feet, but ultimately, he did what was asked of him. This was not the case in his return. The way he speaks to Xemnas in Kingdom Hearts III suggests that trust has been eroded, and the loyalty is gone. He offers a sarcastic quip when they speak with him. His loyalty is tested when Vexen approaches him, and it’s his hiding and masquerading under the radar that makes him a suitable candidate. His return to the Organization brought him nothing but frustration. He may be lazy, but taking away everything to have him sit around frustrates him. He demonstrates many angry exclamations that he’s been benched, everything in his body language and tone suggesting he’s pissed off about it. It is because of this oversight on Xehanort’s behalf that he winds up shucking loyalty out the window and giving in to the plot to bring down the Organization. His role is minor, but important, and because he has some self-respect and self-value, he latches onto it. Vexen played it up well because the best way to handle Demyx is to know how to manage him, a delicate balance between the things he wants to do and the things he doesn’t.
Abilities:
Demyx is at the heart of it all a musician. His weapon is a sitar roughly the same size as him. He’s often seen playing it, not just for amusement but for use in battle. He can control water, often using the music from his sitar to do so. He can summon water out of thin air, and shape it to his needs, usually he replicates himself into water clones, to a maximum of 99 at a time. He can create large balls for attack, even geysers, and a wall of water for defence.
He has two limit breaks. The normal limit break is called Wave Gigs. This allows several columns of water to come out and attack those he’s fighting. The second, his final limit, is a very large ball of water that explodes causing knockback and water damage.
Like all Nobodies, he has the ability to summon and unsummon his weapon. He can also travel through darkness portals to get where he’s going.
Alignment:
I think Demyx would be most closely aligned with Piphron. He distrusts most people, even though he might not say so, but earning his trust would be most rewarding and likely add to his crystal a larger amount that that constant thrum of distrust. While he could be connected to Sosyne, for his current iteration does go through anger, and he’s usually calm, it’s likely that these trust issues are far more intricate to his character, and are likely a more interesting focus.
Other:
Since his return to the true Organization XIII, his eyes have changed from aquamarine to a menacing gold, suggesting his heart has been corrupted in darkness.

Emotion Sample:
It was really nice getting a chance to breathe. Things were chaotic, coming to a new place, meeting people he knew or didn’t know, being telepathically connected to an entire island of individuals, it was exhausting. Now, Demyx was lying in a bed and finally getting a chance to sort through is thoughts.
He didn’t know how he got there, which wasn’t that much of a problem, a wrong turn perhaps, but he also learned he couldn’t leave. That thought made something tight flicker in his chest, and a few ragged breaths shook it loose. No, he couldn’t go back, but really would anyone miss him?
His fingers clenched at his sides at the thought, it was hard to know if Xehanort would miss him or not. Their leader wouldn’t give him the time of day, aside from letting him know he was benched. Benched like he was worthless. Then, he wondered, what the hell he was there for. It wasn’t the first time, but it made his body stiffen, and the lightbulb above him flickered a few times. He wasn’t angry, he couldn’t be angry, but that made his frustration build. He was presumably, living his life. Why was he dragged back into this mess just to be sidelined?
Demyx wanted to scream sometimes, but ultimately, he took a slow breath and let the anger go, turning it into resentment and bitterness to be drawn upon later. The light stabilized for a moment and then with a flicker, it burnt out. That was better. He needed to calm down and try and think rationally. He was stuck in a place where their superiors couldn’t find him. That was almost ideal right?
He doubted if it was that perfect, that it would last. He punched his pillow beneath his head and rolled over to get some sleep.
